What is Chess?

Chess is an abstract strategy board game that is played by two people. Players will be called either white or black, each player will control the chess pieces in their color. The games objective is to checkmate the opponent’s king. Chess is played on a cheeseboard which consists of 64 squares that are displayed in an 8x8 grid. The game is played using 32 chess pieces, each player controls 16 pieces which are 8 pawns, 2 rooks, 2 knights, 2 bishops, one king and one queen. At the beginning of the game the white player moves first. The game is won by checkmating the opponent’s king.
