From Third-Place Finalists to Worldwide Success

One Direction are an English-Irish boyband that formed on The X-Factor on July 23rd, 2010. The band consists of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, and Zayn Malik. They first reached global success with their first album Up All Night (2011), and their next three albums, Take Me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013), and Four (2014), all reaching the top of the US Billboard 200, which was a feat they were first to. Their final album pre-hiatus, Made in the A.M. (2015) reached number 2, following Justin Bieber's album, Purpose. The band went on an indefinite hiatus in late 2015, months after former member Zayn Malik left the band.
