Explore this beautiful but underestimated travel destination

Oviedo is located in northern Spain with a distance of approximately 30 kilometres to the Atlantic ocean. Due to its elevated position of 300 metres above sea level there is a maritime climate in Oviedo. It is the capital city of the Principality of Asturias and has a population of 220.000 people. Oviedo contains a rich architectural history, many buildings go back to the early medieval period. When travelling to Oviedo you should definitely visit the beautiful old town with all the narrow streets, interesting statues, the majestic cathedral and all the great historic sights.

Another interesting architectural sight is the Shopping Center which is named after the last name of its architect Calatrava. It can be found easily as it’s huge and stands out of all the other buildings in Oviedo.

In the evening you can go to lots of nice restaurants and bars offering Sidra, the typical alcoholic drink in Asturias. It’s apple wine but in fact it’s not just a drink but a culture.

Additionally, Oviedo is the perfect starting point for many trips in the northern part of Spain. You can go hiking in the national park "Picos de Europa", travel to the coast or visit other beautiful cities such as Gijón, León or Luarca.
