The Dachshund is a breed of dog that is commonly known in North America as a "weiner dog". They are also sometimes referred to as "hot dogs🌭" or "sausage dogs". Dachshunds are short in height, have long bodies, and have short legs. Dachshund is a German🇩🇪 word that translates to "badger dog" in English. This is because daschunds were bred to hunt badgers and other small animals that live in holes. There are many different kinds of daschunds, however a design that has become very popular is the miniature dachshund. A miniature dachshund is smaller than a standard one and typically weighs no more than 12 pounds. There are a wide variety of miniature dachshunds that exist. And they can either have short, long or wirey hair. Miniature daschunds also exist in many different colours🌈 and patterns including:
- chocolate & tan
- black & tan
- isabella & tan
- red
- cream
- dapple
- sable
- piebald
Even though a miniature dachshund may look cute and tiny, you need to be aware that this breed has a BIG and BOLD personality. Remember - they were bred to hunt, so they are independent thinkers. They are known to be whip smart, which means some can be tricky to train. Miniature dachshunds are also a very 🎵vocal🎵 breed and love the sound of their own voice! So if you want a quiet pup, maybe think twice before you consider getting one. Miniature dachshunds also have a lot of needs for their breed such as protecting their very delicate backs. They are prone to back injuries such as IVDD, which can sadly be a death sentence for a daschund, and severely shorten its life. 💔 It's important that you understand how to properly care for your dog to keep your miniature dachshund healthy and happy. ✅
