Feeling lonely and like you have too much time on your hands? Is your apartment or house a little
too
tidy?
I have the answers to all your problems. A cat. Or two. Honestly, get as many as you are able to
afford. They'll follow you everywhere around the house and meaw at you at three AM to feed them
ASAP. Every purr you hear from them will make it all worth it.
As the music industry, aka Taylor Swift, once said, "Three cats is a cat lady, two cats is a
party."
So,
when in
doubt, always aim for 'cat lady' status. Why? In this day and age, who needs kids? In case you
haven't heard, pets are the new kids, plants are the new pets, and children are canceled.
But, Gen, cat ladies are crazy! Yeah, crazy healthy AND happy. Owning a cat helps relief stress and
lowers
anxiety. Every pet and kiss from your furry little friend with sharp claws and diva attitude is a
blessing.
And if you work from home, they're the best work-buddies!
THE BEST.
Every zoom meeting that could have been an email will be a thousand times more tolerable when the
attention
is re-dericted to Mr. Mittens.
So what are you waiting for? Go to your local animal shelter or cat rescue and find your best
friend.
Lucifer & Light Changed My Life
Lucifer was my first pet.
A friend of mine found Luci in her parent's garage. They couldn't keep him, so she reached out
to
our friend group where she also shared an image of the baby. It was love at first sight.
Truly.
After a mishap with his gender where we first thought he was a girl, hence the nickname Luci, we
settled into life together and have been inseparable ever since. And I'm not exaggerating. The
man
hardly left my side for more than a day or two for years. At the time, I was not coping well
with my
anxiety and depression, and Luci was always there for me. I swear he has some sort of sixth
sense
about those things. Any time I was hitting a new low, Luci made sure to check in with headbutts
and
then proceeded to lie down on my lap or next to me in bed.
Despite the aloof personality he likes to portray, he's a huge softie.
Light came into our lives about a year after Luci. I told myself I was only taking a look around
at
the animal shelter. Only looking around and hanging out with kitties for a few minutes.
Of course, I also couldn't resist peeking into the sick bay where the kitties with colds were
kept.
I was only supposed to foster Light for a few weeks until her cold went away. The animal shelter
requested pictures once she was better and a short bio to make her stand out to potential
adopters.
That didn't happen.
Oh, I took pictures. Many pictures. But I was lying to myself because after a few days, there
was no
way I could have given her up.
Light was never afraid to show affection. She gave that freely and constantly. I can pick her up
like a baby or kiss her belly and she will always purr loudly. A true cuddlebug. Her favorite
past
time is perching on any high surface and look down on people in silent judgment.
My babies are now six years old and still getting up to no good. Luci will shove something off
my
desk while staring straight into my eyes, daring me to stop him. I never do, of course. He's
boss
baby. Meanwhile Light leads an unproblematic life. Nothing phases her. No worries to speak of.
Only
cuddles and purrs.
I love both of them with all my heart and can never thank them enough for their support and
unconditional love. I hope they know it, though. I hope they know not only how much I love them,
but
also the immense gratitude I have in my heart. They truly make my life so much brighter. There's
no
way I can put into the words how thankful I am, and always will be, for their emotional support.
Or
how much I love them, for that matter.
