My journey in programming started long time ago when I was a highschool
sudent. I don't even remember which language it was, maybe
Pascal or Basic, but that was when I learned my very first programming syntaxes and
logic. Little by little I learned about variables and functions, errors
and debugging... and this continued in my BSc and MSc studies as a
mechanical engineering student when I solved engineering questions using
programming in differnet languages such as
C and Fortran but
mostly in Matlab.
Although the problems were difficult in some cases but the
programming itself was never advanced. Until this spring, when I
received an email from Stanford University inviting me to join
Code in Place 2023, a FREE, 6-week online course that
covers the fundamentals of computer programming using the Python
programming language. The application process itself was fun and took me
a day or 2 to complate and submit as it included getting to know
Karel
the robot and solving a few coding tasks. 3 weeks later, I received
another email telling me that I was accepted! 🌱
And there began one of my most fun learning experiences, solidifying
everything I knew about programming and adding a lot to it. One of the
most interesting aspects of code in place was the weekly in-person
live sections with a section leader in groups of 10 to
15 students, where we solved a short problem together and got to know
other people from around the world with very differnet backgrounds but a
mutual passion for programming.
The most exiting part of this journey for me was the last 2 weeks when
we learned how to code graphics and animations and I could write the
complete
Snake game
all by my self! Then we were asked to use our creativity to create a
final project showcasing everything that we had learned... That's when I
decided to write my own version of Tetris game which came out to look
much like the
good old Tetris
we used to play on hand-held consoles as kids! Click on the links and
give these games a try! I dare you to break my record in Tetris 😎😉
