Microplastics

Microplastics are plastic particles of up to 0,5 mm in diameter and microplastic pollution presents an alarming environmental problem. Namely, microplastics are found everywhere: from the deepest ocean to highest mountain, in soil, air and drinking water. Consequently, microplastics were also found in the human body. [1]

Although the potential harmful effects of microplastics on the human organism are still unknown, microplastic particles can serve as a delivery system for different chemicals and pathogens that can cause a threat to human health. [2]

What to do about it?

While scientists are still searching for the answers the best thing to do is to focus on reducing plastic pollution by eliminating single-use plastic products and recycle used plastics.
