Ceiba trees are silk-cotton trees that grow in the tropical and subtropical forests of Central America and surrounding areas.
Also called Kapok, they feature an umbrella canopy and grow to be about 150 feet tall and live 60 useful years.
In Ancient Mayan mythology these signified the universe and were considered the most sacred of trees.
On top of being the national tree of Puerto Rico, the ceiba pentanra has been the national tree of Guatemala since 1955.
