Nigerian Literature

I can roughly define Nigerian Literature as the literary writing y citizens of my nation Nigeria, for Nigerian reader, addressing Nigeria issues. I am drawn to books like this as everyday issues are addressed. A very great way to kickstart your Journey with Nigerian Literature is by reading 'THE BIG THREE' by Chimamanda Adichie. I remember the first time i read Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda. The central character is Kambili Achike, aged fifteen for much of the period covered by the book, a member of a wealthy family in Enugu State, dominated by her devoutly Catholic father, Eugene. Eugene is both a religious zealot and a violent figure in the Achike household, subjecting his wife Beatrice, Kambili herself, and her brother Jaja to beatings and psychological cruelty. I was in my early teenage years, and the book gave me 'a big sister'. Kambili, despite everything she went through in a way was teaching things to do and to not do as i progressed in my years. Another favorite being Americanah by Chimamanda made me fall in love with the character obinze, i wanted to receive the love he gave Ifemelu.

Books are my escape from reality. I enter a world i never want to come out from. Nigerian literature gives me knowledge about my people even as i am in a new world.
