Akasan is a traditional and popular drink from
Haiti
. Etymologically, akasan derives from the number "one hundred"(100). San means "one hundred" in
Haitian creole
.
It's a sweet drink that has the consistency of a pudding made from corn flour, evaporated milk and spices.
The main spices used to prepare the drink are
vanilla, cinnamon
and aniseed.
Traditionally, Haitians consume akasan hot or cold for breakfast,
many locals like it with bread (Such a good combination!).
I personnally love it warm, for breakfast. It is one of my favorite haitian food.
Feel free to try your own homemade akasan!
