Padel is a racket sport invented in Mexico in the 60s by Enrique Corcuera. He wanted to build a tennis court in this house but a wall was on the way so he decided to incorporate that into the game. It quickly expanded to Spain and Argentina where it developed during the last decades.
Padel is similar to tennis with some small differences. The court is the same but smaller. Singles need an even smaller court but most courts are doubles. The ball is less bouncy and the racket is solid with perforations and no strings. The biggest difference is that there’s a wall behind each side that can be used to bounce the ball off.
The score is the same as in tennis, with 6 games per set. The serbing is different as you hit the ball low after bouncing it off the floor instead of hitting it in the air. The ball can only bounce once on the floor and can only be hitted once by team before crossing the net. It can’t hit the wall before bouncing from the floor, if it hits the wall before the floor it’s an out.
