Romantic comedy or rom-coms is a subgenre of comedy. It's focused on humorous plotlines centered on romantic ideas, such as dating, marriage, break-ups, and true love. These movies usually contain happy endings.

What makes a rom-com?

For a movie to be considered a rom-com, you have to answer yes to all three questions:

• Is the plot centered around a love story?
• Does it make you laugh more than it makes you cry?
• If you pull the love story out of the movie, is there still a movie, or does the whole thing collapse?

When your watching rom-coms, it triggers a release of oxytocin, it is a stress free genre compared to other genres and it is a healthy mix of realism, and Hollywood magic.
