Scuba diving is a mode of underwater diving whereby divers use breathing equipment that is completely
independent of a surface air supply, and therefore has a limited but variable endurance.
The name "scuba", is an acronym for
"Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus", coined by Christian J.
Lambertsen in 1952. Scuba diving may be performed for a number of reasons, both personal and professional.
Recreational diving is done purely for enjoyment and has a number of technical disciplines to increase
interest underwater, such as cave diving, wreck diving, ice diving and deep diving.
