Opera Singing is Physics

Every art should become science, and every science should become art. -Heinrich von Schlegel

Elementary science teaches that sound is vibrations. Taking that into consideration, it is understandable that music is organized sound. When a person is singing, the brain and the body work together to organize sound into music. A singer holds a note in tune by regulating the speed of the vibration to ring a perfect note. Our ears help us know what to do. The brain knows how we want things to sound, and we emulate it with our voice. Or perhaps there isn’t much forethought, we just feel like singing and adjust as we go along to express ourselves. In order to take singing to the next level, it is necessary to treat the body as an instrument and learn how to play the instrument with consistency. It is helpful to know the physics of singing in order to get the sounds we want.
