A wrist watch is one that is worn on the wrist attached to a strap made
of leather, metal or various plastic materials. Initially, wristwatches
were unpopular with men, who preferred pocket watches and disdained
wristwatches because they thought they were similar to jewelery. Wrist
watches are of two types that are differentiated by their caliber or
movement, which measures the passage of time and shows it. They can be
mechanical or electronic, or a mixture of both. The
first wristwatch, not even considered a watch but a bracelet, was
designed in 1812 for a queen, Caroline Murat, one of Napoleon
Bonaparte's little sisters for Abraham-Louis Breguet.
