Slow Fashion 101
What exactly is Slow Fashion?
Simple definition: Slow fashion is the antithesis of quick fashion. It
includes a fashion knowledge and perspective that takes into account
the procedures and materials needed to produce garments. It promotes
investing in higher-quality clothing that will last longer and upholds
the importance of treating people, animals, and the environment
fairly. In actuality, there are many parallels between slow fashion
and sustainable or ethical fashion. They are related movements that
adhere to the same fundamental principles. Slow fashion stands out
primarily because it concentrates on lowering consumption and
production in particular.
'Slow fashion' was a term that naturally developed. Following
the success of the slow food movement, it was first used by Kate
Fletcher of the Centre for Sustainable Fashion. Fletcher believed that
the fashion industry needed to move at a slower pace, similar to the
slow food movement. The fast fashion concept, which first appeared
about 20 years ago and saw a decrease in the cost of clothing and a
speeding up of trend cycles, is opposed by slow fashion. It is evident
that this mindset is an essential component of the movement as a whole
given that companies like H&M burn several tonnes of unsold clothing
each year despite continued sustainability attempts to complete the
loop in fashion.
