The Ang Ku Kueh (translated to 'Red Tortoise Cake') is so named
because it resembles a tortoise shell. It is a traditional Chinese
snack popular throughout the Chinese community in Southeast Asia,
and symbolises Prosperity, Longevity, and Wealth.
In Singapore, one of the most famous purveyors of this traditional sweet
is Ji Xiang Confectionery, which was established in the 1980s. Aside
from the traditional fillings of peanut and sweet bean paste, Ji Xiang also
produces ang ku kueh with new fillings such as corn, yam, and coconut.
