Stained glass is coloured glass as a material or the works created from it. Throughout its thousand-year history, the term has been applied almost exclusively to the windows of churches and other significant religious buildings. Although traditionally made in flat panels and used as windows, the creations of modern stained glass artists also include three-dimensional structures and sculpture. Modern vernacular usage has often extended the term "stained glass" to include domestic lead light and objets d'art created from foil glasswork exemplified in the famous lamps of Louis Comfort Tiffany.

The craft, more notably the Tiffany Method, has now extended into the realms of modern day social media where a large number of stained glass artists feature their smaller works and associated technical processes on platforms such as Instagram, gaining them large amounts of followers. One of the aims being to make these traditionally expensive products more accessible to the everyday person, so that more people can enjoy their beauty within the home.
