Pinhão

The nut of south Brazil

Pinhão

"From the pine tree the pine cone was born.
From the pine tree the pine tree was born.
From the pine tree the party was born.
The tradition party!"

The jingle is from the mountainous region of the interior of Santa Catarina. Place where the Pinhão Festival is held. The pinion is formed inside a pinecone, closed, which over time opens up until the pinion is released. When on the back it is said that from pine tree to pine tree born. That makes reference to the overflow these pine nuts spread in a radius of approximately fifty meters from the mother plant. In the months of May and June, in the late autumn of the southern hemisphere, the pine cones burst in the midday sun, possibly as a reflection of the swelling after the cold morning. Loaded with tradition, this pinecone is also very tasty, and can be used in recipes (such as the meatloaf), or even just baked or cooked.
