A wide range of dishes everyone can enjoy

The techniques and skills have been developed over thousands of years and in 2010, Mexican cuisine was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Staple ingredients include corn, chilli peppers, tomatillos (green tomatoes) and beans, while many dishes contain use lesser known ingredients such as nopal (cactus pads), huitlacoche (corn smut) and even edible insects. Chocolate also originated in Mexico and remains an important ingredient in local dishes such as mole, a traditional sauce and marinade often made for special occasions and holidays.

Here are just a few of the amazing dishes that are popular in Mexico:

Pozole

Pozole is a traditional soup or stew made with hominy (dried corn kernels) and meat, usually chicken or pork. It can be seasoned and garnished with oregano, shredded lettuce, chilli peppers, onion, garlic, radishes, avocado and limes. The three main types of pozole are rojo (red), blanco (white) and verde (green).
Tamales

Tamales are made from "masa", a dough made from nixtamalized corn, which is filled, shaped and then steamed in a corn husk or banana leaves. Popular fillings include chicken, pork, beans, cheese or even sweet options such as strawberry, pineapple and chocolate.
Tacos

Tacos consist of small hand-sized corn or wheat tortillas with a filling and toppings such as salsa, onion, coriander, avocado and lime juice. Tacos are a common type of street food and each state has its own traditional style.
