Deaf awareness is about promoting the positive aspects of deafness and social inclusion. When access and communication are good, deafness ceases to be a barrier, and at its most fundamental level, it facilitates a bridge between hearing and deaf people. Raising awareness is important, as it educates both hearing and non-hearing people and eradicates any possible stigmas - ensuring the deaf community isn't left isolated.
Deaf culture is the set of social beliefs, behaviors, art, literary traditions, history, values, and shared institutions of communities that are influenced by deafness and which use sign languages as the main means of communication. The celebration of Deaf culture allows Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals to be who they are and embrace life in a way that is unique to them.
