I am very excited to reveal my Modern kitchen today. You know, as a parent (of kids or pets), when you find yourself staring at your child unknowingly whispering, 'I just love you so much' while they eat pancakes? That's what I do to photos of our kitchen.
When we saw this house, we immediately fell in love with it, but we wanted a better kitchen. When I cook or share food with friends and family, I should enjoy the process of cooking or sharing the food together. So, my husband and I decided to redesign and renovate our kitchen.
Renovating a kitchen for the first time when it is your own was challenging (I wonder if I've appropriately drilled that into your head). Sure, I could have easily phoned it in with a basic kitchen, but I wanted it to be this perfect mix of classic + modern, happy + sophisticated, contemporary + timeless with enough memorable moments that take it from standard to exceptional.
I learned SO MUCH from this kitchen. It all started right after we got the house keys. I started taking measurements and thinking about how to fit the Peninsula in this kitchen. I am not a professional architect/ designer, so we contacted a few freelance designers. Within 2 days, we got the basic layout of our design. And that is where I started dreaming about my kitchen. I made a few changes according to my style and started looking for materials, appliances, and accessories. I was lucky that my agent worked in this renovation business, so she helped us to find a contractor. I'll be honest that there were some significant bumps along the way, like there was no island, and we wanted an island (so we had to reposition a few things except the gas range and sink); I felt so sad that when we talked to the designer, he mentioned that because of the narrow space, we can't add an island, but we can add Peninsula. When we decided to add Peninsula, we had to get rid of our long window that faced towards our pool(What a view 🤩 ). We chose to pay to fix it, and luckily we can just replace it with a smaller window. Because We weren't 't going to spend months designing this kitchen to have any regrets. I'm so glad we did because I'm proud of this room.
I want to jump into the computer when I see photos. I want to live here. Hang out with my kids here. Make soup after soup after soup here while my kids read to each other quietly between spoonfuls of vegetables. I designed this for my life with my family, and I would be thrilled here. I was really thankful that my husband and I had the same desire, so he trusted me and invested in this kitchen, and I will always love him for that.
