African Elephants

Currently African Elephants (Loxodonta africana) are a vulnerable species as they face threats to their survival due to habitat destruction, ivory poaching and human-wildlife conflict. At the moment there are an estimated 400,000 to 415,000 African Elephants living in countries such as Uganda, Mali, Sierra Leone ect.

• Elephants are the largest land mammal, with a gestation period of 22 months; the longest of all animals
• Elephants are herbivores with a dirt consisting of grass, fruit, leaves and twigs
• Elephants travel and live in herds and will walk at the pace of their slowest member
• The lifespan of an Elephant can reach up to 70 years
