If you live or work in an apartment with a small balcony or terrace, or even just a near window, it's important to make the most out of your light and outdoor space. With smart planting choices and tricks to set the mood, you can make the most of your outside space and create your own little self-haven.
For the practical ones, this idea might satisfy your need to give your
green area an actual use other than decorating. Because there is nothing
like the taste of your very own food, grown at home. Space is not an
excuse anymore, you can buy all sorts of seeds and urban gardening
boxes. Start small and grow only a few easy veggies or fruits to get
yourself going. I recommend lettuce in summer and brocoli in the colder
months. They don't need deep soil or require extensive care, and you
will see progress from the first few weeks.
You can buy wooden planting boxes for beginners, and even full sets with
seeds and some basic tools on specialized marketplaces like:
The entrance of your house could definitely use some nature tooπ You can decorate the inside, just need a surface from which your earthy friends will welcome you home! And even the outside and your doorstep, if you have the possibility. Don't worry about not getting little or no direct light on that spot, there are some elegant species like the Sansevieria trifasciata (on the left image above) whose tall, elongated and tiger-patterned leaves will make your neighbours stare.
To give it a more colourful touch, you might be willing to add a flowers to your newly decorated home.
You can do this in the classic form of a vase to make a large table more elegant, or simple combine different flowers of your choice and place them on a simple object of your choice.
I am the minimalist type, so my recommendation is to include a subtle decoration in your preferred room of the house, consisting of one type of flowery plant
(like Orchidaceae if humidity levels where you live are medium to high), or a combination of two or three different ones, such as the classic but atemporal combo of Roses and Liliums.
