The Chinese zodiac, also known as Shengxiao, is a repeating cycle of 12 years, and each year is represented by a different animal. According to the most commonly accepted legend, the Jade Emperorβs Race, the chinese emperor held a race to determine which lucky animals would have the honor of being added to the calendar. In order, the 12 animals are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. Is is believed that an individual's personality is influenced by the traits of the zodiac animal associated with the year of his or her birth.
