Food Prep

The concept of food prepping can seem counter intuative at first. "How am I supposed to find a few consecutive hours to dedicate soley to cooking? I'm so busy!" When in reality, food prep helps relieve daily pressures by taking the guess work out of what to cook each day. It allows us to thoughtfully plan out our meals to ensure that we are making healthy food choices and feeding our bodies the right nutrients. Food prep saves us time, money and energy. Strength Training

Strength training can feel like an alien world at first. "I don't want to get too muscular" or "I am not strong enough to do those exercises", are often thoughts associated with the idea of starting a strength training routine. It can feel uncomfortable and hard to navigate how many of what exercises we should be doing. Starting off slow, with light weight, and building a solid base is a good place to begin. Consistency is key and being compassionate with yourself along the way is crucial. Over time you will build strength and confidence and start reaping the benefits: living life with more energy, lean muscle mass (not necessarily bigger muscles!), improved overall strength and so much more!

Meditation

The benefits of meditation are abundant: building self awareness, reducing negative emotions, focusing on the present moment, managing stress, the list goes on. Often we may think, "How am I supposed to turn my brain off?", the beauty is that you aren't! Meditation simply guides us into an awareness of our mind and body. It invites us to slow down and be present. In today's world we are taught that slowing down means you are no longer productive and shifting from this way of thinking into a space of relaxation and calm may be exactly what we need to become more productive. The key is to start off small. Try two minutes at first and slowly build your way up over time. Remember that we do not meditate to turn our thoughts off but to become more aware of them!

Stretching

Stretching is a practice that is often over looked or associated with yoga and therefore seems unnecessary or too difficult. Stretching can be integrated into a daily routine before and after a work out, while waiting for the kettle to boil or while watching television. It is important that as we age we continue to use our body in a wide variety of ways so that we do not lose flexibility and mobility in our later years. When starting out, it may be helpful to remember that the goal is to build or maintain a healthy range of motion throughout the body so that we can move throughout our lives and our daily activities with ease. Be kind to yourself and try not to overcomplicate things.
