I am passionate about travelling and discovering the world 🌏
But I know sometimes it gets scary for us, women, to embark on the adventure of travelling solo. When I told my friends and family I was about to go travel by myself I was highly discouraged! They told me all the stories in the news, warned me about how dangerous it is and what could go wrong (something that does not happen as often with men).
Despite all the fears and discouraging words, I can tell you it is possible and it can be a lot of fun!
Here are the best tips I found, based on my own experience.
🏡 Do your homework: make a research on the dangerous areas of your destination and try to avoid them, especially at night.
🧳 Pack light: Having too many things will be difficult to move around.
📲 Stay connected: Buy a local sim card when you get to your destination (preferably at the airport) or use one of these international plans.
It is easier to be safe if you keep others posted, and if you know exactly where you are and where you are going. So always stay connected (and with battery) at all times.
👑 Be confident: Act like you know where you are and what you're doing. This is easier when you go to countries similar to yours, but try to do it as much as possible.
🙉 Trust your instincts: If someone really looks suspicious they probably are.
🔒 Prioritize safety: Don't drink too much and always keep an eye on your belongings. Do not let important/expensive things in the room unless they are in a safe or locked.
🌀 Have an open mind: - Last but not least - be open to try new foods, to make new friends, to be immersed in new cultures and find out about the history and traditions of the place you are visiting. And, most importantly, have fun!
