Africa is made up of of 54 countries (or 56 if you count Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and Somaliland - the two
states with no or limited internatonal recognition). The continent is large and very diverse.
This is why you shouldn't say you are 'going to Africa' when visiting a specific country. 😉

1. Africa is large and geographically diverse:
The continent is the second largest after Asia and it covers 20% of the earth's land area. Also, it has eight major physical regions which all have unique ecosystems.

2. It is a home of language and culture:
The people of Africa are not homegenous. Across the continent, there are identified diversities in ethinicity, culture, race, language and religion. Today, there are more than 3000 ethnic groups and 2000 different languages spoken across Africa.
3. The continent is young and modern too:
With 60% of its population under 25 years of age, Africa is a very young continent. Also, the continent has many vibrant and beautiful cities and other urban areas (in the different countries) that are home to over 400 million.
4. It is home to many scientific breakthroughs and a growing tech industry:
Some of the greatest scientific and technological inventions hail from Africa. Examples include the CAT Scan and cybertracker (South Africa), mathematics and medicine (Egypt) and the cardiopad (Cameroon). Also, the continent is experiencing a growing digital innovation industry.
5. It has a vibrant and growing creative industry
Africa is full of creative talent boosted by the continent's rich and diverse cultures. Over the decades, African creatives have cemented their influence and legacy whether it be it in music, film, fashion, television or design. The industry also contributes significantly to national economies. Nigeria's film industry, Nollywood, is reported to be worth US $5.1 billion.
