Calatheas

Nature's Brushstrokes

Calatheas, also known as "Prayer Plants", belong to the Marantacecae family and are indigenous to the Americas, Africa and Asia. Their foliage is best known for unfurling in the morning and folding up in the evening. A calathea's phenomenal ability to move is caused by a change in water pressure in its pulvini (nodes at the base of the leaf) that goes along its leaf stalk. The various shapes and decorative leaves of a calathea are remarkably captivating.

Calatheas are a popular houseplant as they do not require direct bright light. Warm temperature, humidity and damp soil are ideal conditions for these plants but can vary depending on the type of calathea. For any new plant parent, it is best to adapt and see what works for your plant. Enjoy the stellar beauty of the calathea!
