Being new to farming, raising little Nigerian Dwarf goats has been an
eye opener for someone who thought she had retired. I really thought
these characters just ate grass, and bounced around looking all cute. I
thought I would get to learn to make cheeses, and yogarts and ice cream.
Well let me tell you there is so much more to it. It has it's down
sides, and it's upsides.
Downsides
are the health issues that can come up and the birthing issues that can
be life or death of your little animals.
The
upside
is the pleasure of helping them when they need you and especially when
the birthing seems to be going poorly and you can help turn things
around. Then of course, there is watching the crazy antics of these tiny
creatures and of course the many types of cheeses, many types
of yogarts, ice creams, and soaps that can be made from goats milk. All
in all, these are amazing little creaturesππ₯°.
The products that we can make using the goats milk vary. I love to make
goats milk soap, and use many natural scented oils and butters to make a
creamy, cleansing soap. I also make cheeses, using different recipes and
tweaking them to suit our taste.
