"Ukrainian Bestiary" is a book by a mysterious fictional researcher of
the spirits of Ukrainian mythology, documenting encounters with these
creatures. Each spread is dedicated to a creature, with several
illustrations and a brief description of it. 100 Ukrainian artists
took part in the creation, among whom 50 spirits were divided: two
illustrators share the spread, developing the concept art of the
creature and illustrations of its details and habits.
The artbook examines the creatures of lower mythology (demonology).
The spirits it contains could have been found not only on the
territory of Ukraine, but are considered from the point of view of
Ukrainian ethnography. The
artbook is not an ethnographic work
- some information or artistic interpretations may differ, but all
descriptions are based on existing ethnographic research.
