Waterbending

an ancient bending art to control water

Waterbending belongs to the four elemental bending arts. It is the hydrokinetic ability to control water in various forms. Water is the element of change and waterbenders fight fluid and graceful, always in concert with the environment.

There are several styles:

The northern sytle and the southern style are the traditional styles. They are both very similar and focus on graceful, fluid movements for their attacks. These styles use the element water in all kind of forms like ice or snow.

Around 60 percent of the human body is water so it makes sense that an amoral and talented waterbender is able to control the body through blood. Bloodbending is definitely one of the most sinister subskills in the Avatar universe and strictly forbidden.

Instead of the fluid, graceful movements of the other two waterbending styles, the Foggy Swamp style is more rigid and straight. This technique possibly reflects the usualy stagnant nature of water in the swamps. The people use stiff and circular arm movements to move water like a propeller. Similar to the Bloodbenders, the Foggy Swamp style is used to bend plants.
