For many, the term “comfort food” refers to food that brings a nostalgic
feeling or brings back fond memories of one’s childhood or of Mom’s home
cooking. It is often something we turn to when feeling overwhelmed or
under duress.
The word “comfort food” has only been around since the 1960s or so. It
didn’t start gaining popularity until 1977, when The Washington Post
referred to one of their featured holiday recipes as comfort food.
My comfort food is inspired by my multi-cultural South African heritage.
From eating amagwinya, koeksisters and the ultimate Seven Colours on a
Sunday lunch, old and current memories of these meals are means of
preserving our culture through taste as the toils of the modern world
change thus overwhelming us in every manner.
Grab a bowl and get ready as we set to quest across the globe in
nostalgia to bring to life - 'Food at
its best!'
