Acrylic Painting for Beginners

How and Where to Start!

It's easier than you think to pick up a brush and create beautiful works of art in this modern age of technology. Not only is it easier than ever to get supplies (more on this later), there is a plethora of artists that create step-by-step painting tutorials for free on YouTube.

The first that comes to mind is a wonderful painter named Cinnamon Cooney. She goes by the Art Sherpa online and is also the daughter of another artist, Ginger Cook. While both have successful channels, Cinnamon's is more beginner friendly. Once you get a handle on the brush and feel a bit more confident, Ginger, Angela, and Jane are fantastic channels to go to. Feeling a bit more ambitious? Check out Ginger's site where she teaches painting through personal critiques of work.

As I mentioned earlier, it's easier than ever to get supplies. AND if you are worried about the Cadmium in the paint colors, they now come in cadmium free versions! You can order your paint online from chain craft stores such as Michaels, or specialty stores such as Utrecht Art or Jerry's Artarama. Painting is also much more popular - not only can you shop online at Michaels but in person as well. Find your local Michaels location.
