What is a Shetland Sheepdog? 🐶
According to
Wikipedia
and
American Kennel Club, a Shetland Sheepdog, also known as the
Sheltie, is an extremely intelligent, quick, and obedient
herder from Scotland's remote and rugged Shetland Islands.
Shelties bear a strong family resemblance to their bigger cousin, the
Collie.
The Shetland Sheepdog is a small,
active and agile herding dog. The long coat is harsh and straight, with
a dense undercoat, and comes in sable, black and blue merle, with white
markings.
Bright and eager, Shelties are easy
trainers and world-class competitors in obedience, agility, and herding
trials. They are sensitive and affectionate family dogs, highly in tune
with the mood of the household. They like to bark and tend to be
reserved toward strangers: two qualifications of an excellent watchdog.
Gavé (pronounce gah‧ve) a sable Sheltie boy
was born in Orangevale, California on September 12, 2012. His name
derived from "Kahve", a Turkish word for coffee ☕️ thanks to
his color that resembles cafe latte.
He came home with us when he
was 7 weeks old and since then has lived in Bangkok, Thailand; Santa
Monica, CA; Hell's Kitchen, NY; Century City, CA; and for the past 2.5
years has been a permanent resident of Encino, CA.
His two
most favorite things in the whole world are food and his hoomans. Where
there is food and his hooman, you will find him wagging his bushy tail
so vigorously, both ears spike up, and eyes brim with joy. Mind you, all
that loving demeanor will change in a heartbeat whenever he sees (or
hears) the rumbling sound of a motorcycle 🏍️, his forever nemesis.
