The hang is made up of two flattened hemispheres in hardened steel which, when combined, give it the typical lenticular
shape. It has a diameter of 53 cm and a height of 24 cm. In the upper part we find a central protuberance and seven
small lateral cavities, the lower part is smooth with an opening in the center.
These seven cavities are the result of the work of the craftsman who produces a scale tuned to a different note for each
instrument. If the reference note is the same, the scale will be different.
Being series numbered instruments, the peculiarity lies in the fact that each scale does not have a fixed sequence but
each one will have a musical scale that differs from all the others.
It is played with the wrist, palm and fingers of the hands. The word hang , in the Bern dialect , indicates the hand.
The sound is metallic but, compared to the steel pan , it is warmer and lighter. Generally it is played with it resting
on the knees, sometimes a support can also be used.
