Cells such as innate lymphoid cells and macrophages can quickly
integrate cues from their surroundings and act to defend the organism.
Infections that are not treated by the first line of defense are later
taken care by the adaptive arm, the T and B lymphocytes. These special
cells are able to induce specific responses and remember their
enemies.
