Àkàrà SUYA- Delicious Beans Fritters

My favorite Hobby

Àkàrà (Yoruba)(English: Bean cake is a type of fritter made from beans. It is found throughout West African. Akara is an African cuisine that originated from the Yoruba culture, it is made from peeled beans (black eye peas), washed and ground with pepper, and other preferred seasonings, then beaten to aerate them, and deep fried in small balls.

How to Prepare Akara

Akara is prepared by first peeling the beans. A very fast method is to pour the beans into a blender, add water to cover the beans and quick blend for 2secs as in picture below

This then hand washed and the peels removed by seiving using a seive or a collander. A well peeled beans should look like this 👇🏾

After this process, you add the following ingredients: Pepper, Chilli, Onions, Egg, crayfish and little water like 50ml You may have to blend turning your blender in different directions to avoid the blades getting stulk. This is to give your Akara a well rounded shape and well stuffed inner. After a very smooth texture, you are ready for frying. Scoop the Akara into small balls and drop each time into moderartely hot vegetable oil and deep fry for 3-4 minutes

Wuwuhu🤩 your Akara is ready. No one can resist the smell of this wonderful delicacy. Men, Women, Children, Rich and Poor line up in queues beside the road to buy on Spot Akara🤣🤣🤣
Akara can be eaten in different ways:

You can make yours special by slicing some Onions on it with SUYA pepper, sorry I didn't bother to learn the spice, I just ask the SUYA man to give me extra SUYA pepper when i buy SUYA 😋🤩🤣
