I am not a particularly artistic person. I've tried painting and sculpting
and various crafts, but none ever "stuck" for me. Nothing, that
is, except for cooking!
I make it a point to try 1 - 2 new receipes every single week, and cooking
has been an excellent way for me to release stress and be alone with my
thoughts, especially after a busy day or during a stressful time in my
life. It is the best way I know how to be creative. I can add any spices
or flavors to what I'm making depending on how I'm feeling or depending on
what I'm trying to make others feel (or in this case, taste!)
Cooking is also very much my love language; each time a sibling or a
family member went off to college or moved into their first place, I
always make a loaf of my famous cream cheese filled banana bread. Whenever
I moved in with new roommates, I would make my delicious chimichurri
shrimp couscous. And when I know a loved one is going through a hard time,
I make it a point to find out their favorite comfort food and recreate it
for them as a surprise.
I find cooking to be as enjoyable as it is for others to eat my cooking.
In fact, my friends and I have a tradition every New Year's Day, where
they come over to my house and I make a ton of crepes! Everyone brings
stuff to fill them with, along with things for mimosas, and we spend the
day eating and drinking and enjoying each others' company. It truly brings
us all together! π
One of my favorite websites to get recipes from is SkinnyTaste. She sorts
her receipes not only by course, but by diet and what sort of appliances
you may or may not have (like an air fryer or an instant pot). I also
really like this site because she lists the estimated nutrition
information, and other users can leave comments on her site, which often
hold tips and tricks or reviews of that receipe.
