Late last year, I was refered to watch new BET television series called Kingdom Business. If you haven't watched it yet, and are a fan of scripted drama series written around the "upper-class" black community such as Empire, 50 Cent's Power, or Tyler Perry's Greenleaf; you might find that this show is right up your ally.
The show highlights a successful christian family's musical ministry that begins to encounter wordly and internal conflict as the "traditional" gospel music industry becomes much more modernized. Each of the main character's have a fantastic character plot.
Now, what places this series to the top of my favorite's list is the soundtrack. The musical compositions and selections for this show bring forward a "NEW" spin on gospel music all together. It's the same gospel themes, only more hyped tracks. These artist use modern beats and relevant gospel lyrics for Gen Z and Millennial listeners.
This lead me on a journey down the Christian Rap and R&B rabbit hole. I began to be uplifted, enlightened, and encouraged by this genre. It was filled with young,vibrant, and authentic believers. Their ability to tie the gospel into their love for Hip Hop and R&B is mind blowing and very inspirational.
