K-Beauty

What is K-Beauty?

K-Beauty simply stans for Korean beauty, and is based around the day to day skincare routine. Unlike western beauty trends, the K-beauty trend focuses not only on the appearance of the skin, but also the health of it. The healthier the skin, the better the appearance. Korean beauty products usually use more natural ingredients (inspired by nature) such as green tea leaves, orchid, soybean to snail slime, morphing masks, bee venom, and pig collagen just to mention a few.
Products are created with each skin type in mind, as all skin types are different and there isn't a one size fits all. This is where trial and error usually comes in. If your skin type is more on the dry side, you would seek out products designed to hydrate, or if your skin is more on the oily side, you would hunt for products that will combat this. Once you have found products that are designed for your skin type and work well for you, there is then an order in which you should apply each product.

What order do I apply the products in?

Good question. If you google this, the answer is usually a 10-step routine each night/morning, but in reality, this can be less or this can be more. It all depends on you, the products you have, the condition of your skin or just how lazy you feel that day.

However, the 10-step routine is as follows:

  1. Double cleanse - part one: Use an oil-based cleanser to remove all oil-based impurities.
  2. Double cleanse - part two: Follow your oil cleanse with a gentle, non-stripping water-based cleanser.
  3. Exfoliator: This is an extra and doesn't have to be every day—it's based on whatever your skin needs.
  4. Hydrating toner: Use a hydrating toner to balance pH and kick-start hydration.
  5. Essence: Essence is primarily geared toward amping up hydration.
  6. Face oils, serums, ampoules: These are the most personalized steps of your routine, which is all about targeting the specific issues you want to address.
  7. Masks: This could be sheet masks or other hydrating masks but doesn't have to be every day.
  8. Eye cream: Eye cream comes next.
  9. Moisturizer: Then seal it all in with a moisturizer.
  10. In the mornings, always finish up with SPF. At night time, add a thicker night cream or sleeping mask.

No matter how many steps you decide to do, you just need to remember to do them in order. You cannot add serums before toner and you can not add a sunscreen before moisturizer. As long as you have the correct order with your chosen products, you're good to go! 🥰
