The blue whale is a marine mammal belonging to the baleen whale suborder Mysticeti. Reaching a maximum confirmed length
of 29.9 meters and weight of 173 tonnes, it is the largest animal known to have ever existed. Although once upon a time there may have been over 350,000 blue whales in our oceans, pre-industrial hunting decimated
their populations and now there are only between 10,000 and 25,000 left.
