The wire-haired dachshund is one of three bred variants of the Dachshund
or Teckel, a German hunting dog breed that was already used in the
Middle Ages. The short-barreled wire-haired dachshunds enjoy great
popularity. The breed standard of the wire-haired dachshund has existed
since 1888 and is listed in the FCI with the number 148 under the name
"Dachshund" in Group 4: Dachshund mit Arbeitsprüfung.
