The Logophile

noun (law-guh-fahyl)

a lover of words

A page to celebrate literature and art.
The word logophile comes from the ancient greek words logos, which means 'word' and philos, meaning 'love'.

Even the piano listened with admiration.
Tom Phillips, 'A Humument'

Artist Tom Phillips bought A Human Document by W.H.Mallock at Austin's Furniture Repository on Peckham Rye in 1966. Since then, Phillips has meticuously illustrated every page, obscuring all but a few choice words. The result is a catalogue of individual artworks, each a fascinating mixure of visual art and poetry. The words Phillips leaves blank are bright and bold against the painted backgrounds. Some are playful, some are poignant and some are just gorgeous.
