Unfortunately one of the most common reasons we see cats present in
veterinary emergency centres is kidney failure secondary to lily
poisoning. Lilies in the "true lily" and "day lily" varieties are
highly toxic to cats. The entire plant is
toxic when directly or indirectly ingested. Cats only need to groom a
small amount of pollen off their coats to succumb to the toxic effects of
lilies. To prevent poisoning it is best not to bring any lilies into a
cat's home.
