The French Bulldog, French: Bouledogue Français, is a French breed of companion dog or toy dog.
It appeared in Paris in the mid-nineteenth century, apparently the result of cross-breeding of Toy Bulldogs imported from England and local Parisian ratters.
Toy dog?
Although most people consider a "Toy dog" to be a very small dog such as the Teacup Yorkie. Who only weighs up to 4lbs, and the Chihuahua who's average weight is up to 6.5lbs.
Even though Frenchies/French bulldogs may be a bit bigger than your average ankle biter, they are still too small to be considered a "medium sized breed".
The average adult French bulldog weighs between 16-28lbs and stands approximately 12 inches tall at the shoulder.
Life expectancy:
About 10-12 years, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC). This is similar to the average lifespan of other dogs of this size, like Boston terriers and pugs.
Temperament and Training:
These dogs are relatively easygoing and just more comfortable to handle in training. They are independent thinkers and are good enough to bounce back from your inconsistencies or mistakes during training. French bulldogs are very Affectionate, Easygoing, Playful and Sociable making them the perfect family dog!
