While some people wonder whether table tennis is a "real sport",
countless have found out that it indeed is - and an incredible great
one, as well. Men and women of all ages came to love this sport. It's
not only fun, but also a great opportunity to connect with friends and
family with endless variations to try out.
In Germany (aka the football-loving nation), some
players wear a shirt with the inscription: "If table tennis was easy, it
would be called football." I'm not saying that football is really that
easy, but table tennis is in fact a high demanding sport. It is insanely
fast, requires constant concentration and great body control. The
players need to learn a sophisticated technique, although some are more
eager to hold endless debates about the right equipment.
Why is table tennis in Germany interesting? Well, we have Timo
Boll! Just kidding, although he is an incredible athlete, there is more
to this sport in Germany. Over half a million people play in more than
9000 clubs, which makes the German table tennis community one of the
largest in the EU. Besides, the TTBL (the top league) is really fierce
competition with top stars. Germany produces many great talents with its
broad youth development programs. Sure, China is almost unstoppable but
even they deeply respect German players like Boll and Ovtcharov.
