Iranian women have always been present in national uprisings, but
this time they are leading them.
Anti-government protests have intensified across Iran following the
killing of Mahsa Amini. On 16 September 2022 Mahsa Amini, a
22-year-old woman from Saqqez in Iran's Kurdistan Province, died in a
Tehran hospital. Three days earlier she had been arrested by Iran's
Guidance Patrol, or "morality police", for wearing her hijab
"improperly" and fell into a coma after she was beaten inside the
police van taking her to the Vozara Detention Centre.
Authorities have deployed security forces and used live ammunition,
tear gas, batons, water canons, and tasers against demonstrations.
They also restrict internet access as anti-government protests
intensify. Hundred have been killed in the last two months, but The
brave people of Iran all over the country continued their protests
hoping to see days in which justice rules on Iran and the Iranian
people.
