Woman,
Life,
Freedom

Global action in solidarity with Iranian women & girls who are courageously demonstrating peacefully for their fundamental human rights.

On 16 September 2022 Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman from Saqqez in Iran’s Kurdistan Province, died in a Tehran hospital. Three days earlier she had been arrested by Iran’s Guidance Patrol, or ‘morality police’, for wearing her hijab ‘improperly’ and fell into a coma after she was beaten inside the police van taking her to the Vozara Detention Centre. Crowds gathered outside the hospital in a state of shock and responded to her death by calling for accountability. Soon protests spread to other cities.

During Amini’s funeral, on 17 September, crowds gathered in Saqqez chanting the slogan ‘Women Life Freedom’, which was adopted across the country and beyond. Civil unrest eventually spread across cities and towns as well as on Iranian social media. The initial focus of the protests grew to encompass the diverse grievances of Iranian women, with many removing and ritualistically burning their hijabs in front of cheering crowds. Across the diaspora, Iranian women are cutting their hair in solidarity.

Currently, protests and strikes (in some cities and trade unions) have been going on in Iran for more than 60 days, and the people of Iran are fighting against the regime without any weapons, and many young people have been killed along the way. Among the dead, more than 30 of them are children, the youngest of whom is a 10-year-old child named Kian Pirfalak.

A singer named Shervin Hajipour wrote and sang the song "baraye" in sympathy with the people, the text of which was inspired by the tweets of the people of Iran. After singing this song, Shervin Hajipour was arrested and imprisoned! His song became very viral and was sung in many countries.

On October 22, a demonstration was held in Berlin with the presence of 80,000 Iranians

In Iran, during the entire period of protests, the Internet was limited and in some places completely cut off for people, and they commit crimes in silence. Please be our voice. We need the international community to hear us.
