Dinosaurs are birds

or rather, birds are dinosaurs

Dinosaurs are commonly portrayed as big, prehistoric lizards. However, years of evidence shows that dinosaurs are distinctly different from reptiles. In fact, they are closely related to birds! There’s no longer really any doubt that birds are a type of dinosaur. These days, the debate is about details.

First, let's get to know birds:

Birds...

• are a group of warm-blooded vertebrates constituting the class Aves
• have feathers, toothless beaked jaws
• lay hard shelled eggs
• have a strong, lightweight skeleton

Dinosaurs meet all these criterias... and more! The strong evidence doesn’t just come from fossilised bones and similarities found across the skeleton, but from fossilised soft tissue especially feathers. Many dinosaurs had not just some kind of body covering, but distinctive bird-like feathers.
